LAVENDER: 50 SELF-CARE RECIPES AND PROJECTS FOR NATURAL WELLNESS
Gillis . . . offers this well-rounded book on lavender. She starts by outlining the safe preparation of oils, the
differences between safe and natural, and the precautions that should be taken before creating
essential oils. Gillis shares information on the different varieties of lavender and useful gardening
information for readers interested in growing their own, including how to water, prune, and care
for lavender plants in a garden or container. Gillis offers useful information on how flowers make
oil and why it is called essential, the best varieties for oils, and how to store and blend the
finished products. The book features lavender recipes and uses for the mind, body, and soul:
muscle-soothing massage oil and germ-slaying salve as well as edible items like poppy-seed
and lavender vinaigrette and lavender-marinated olives. From gardening to oil-making to cooking
up foods and teas, this book has a little something lavender for everyone.

THE LAVENDER OF SEQUIM: AMERICA'S PROVENCE
"The Lavender of Sequim celebrates Sequim’s agricultural history and the growth of the lavender industry, as well as the medicinal purposes of lavender, varieties of the plant, and how to grow, harvest, and dry it. The author provides a handy chart detailing which foods and flavors complement lavender, and which varieties of lavender work best in the kitchen. I can’t wait to try her recipe for Fresh-Squeezed Lavender Limeade. Sequim’s lavender farms comprise their own section and, sprinkled with sweet quotations throughout, the book is a joy to browse. My favorite part of this guide was the breathtaking pictures….If you’re interested in lavender, or you’re planning a trip to the area, this is an excellent guide.

"The soggy Pacific Northwest is an unlikely contender for the title “America’s Provence.” But that is exactly what has happened since the first lavender fields were planted in 1995 in Sequim, Washington, among former dairy fields basking in the “rain shadow” between the Olympic and Cascade Mountains on the northern Olympic Peninsula. With the greatest diversity of lavender species in America and more than a dozen farms open to visitors within a 10-mile radius, Sequim is a relaxing summer destination where you can explore all things lavender. Local author (and first-time publisher) Bonnie Gillis artfully captures the magic of lavender in this beautiful but practical gift book, a perfect companion for explorations. It’s jam-packed with gorgeous photos by Roger Mosley and 114 pages of history, lore, quotations, health uses, recipes, growing and drying tips, and handy listings on visiting Sequim’s lavender farms."

JUST SISTERS: YOU MESS WITH HER, YOU MESS WITH ME
I bought this for my nieces, who have lost their mother to cancer... I wanted them to know the wonderful relationship that I had with their mother when we were growing up... and through life's ups and downs as we married etc... she was always there for me, and I her. This book definitely covers all of the bases. I just wanted them to know the love between sisters is special and to always cherish that bond through thick and thin.. I would recommend this to any sister!

Perfect gift book. Touching, and humorous, photos of animals paired with inspirational, non-religious, quotations makes this a perfect gift book for any sister, including "sisters of the heart." Regardless of the differences my sister and I have had throughout the years, the bottom line is that "you mess with her, you mess with me." It's that simple.
